  • The  Harris’ mention that the homeschool movement was first started to rebel against low expectations of the home. I’m guessing that this is getting at the fact that our public schools were formed to give kids an education that wasn’t available in their homes. Today, we have plenty of educated folks who can educate their own kids, but, for many reasons, we don’t. This intrigues me even more about the prospect for homeschooling–taking care of the education of the kids God gives us, ensuring its authenticity, excellence, and appropriateness for each of our fearfully, wonderfully, and uniquely made children–and for reforming public education. The people enmeshed in the public education system–namely students, teachers, parents, administrators, and staff people–are in need of Jesus Christ as the center of their lives. This will improve their lives immeasurably for eternity, though the eternality of new life in Christ does not always make itself apparent this side of the powerless grave.
  • This post deserves a reading all to itself. How I’ve read other posts on the Harris’ blog without first reading this is beyond me. What a paradigm shift to consider 13 to 18 year olds as capable of being responsible adults.
  • And again, this post (part two of the previous link), is astounding. Lord, show me the nonsensical twine that binds me to a pathetic twig as it pertains to teaching. Free me from such contrived constraints. And teach me to be a vessel through whom You free others.
