Bible Study notes – 5/6/08 – Trent and Wendy’s

By davestuartjr

Last night’s Bible study was very unique, as Trent and Wendy transformed their house into a prayer mosaic for the time of our Tuesday night study. Here’s how it was laid out:

The basement

  • Prayer requests: You traced your hand on a piece of paper on the wall, and everyone went around, read the requests, and prayed for the person there with their hand on the outline. Loved this.
  • Praying for leaders: Taped to a cabinet were national and church leaders to pray for. Trent’s and Wendy’s church (Grace Community Church in Columbia) was represented with a directory of the church staff and leaders.
  • Praying for the suffering, oppressed, around the world: “If you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders,” Wendy said, “go here and write down all your concerns for the world as your pray about them. When you’re finished, place the paper in the bowl and light a candle.” At the end of the night there was a table covered in candles and a bowl full of paper.
  • There was a place to pray for physical healing.
  • There was a chair facing a door with a quote from Paul in Colossians about a door being opened for the Gospel. This was a place to pray for the spread of the Gospel, with postcards from missionaries taped to the door as well.

The upstairs

  • On the deck there were papers with verses on trusting. The night was beautiful (outside felt like room temp), so this was a wonderful chance to sit outdoors and meditate on God’s Word. I found much solace here in His Word.
  • In the living room was a cross made of two sticks from the yard and twine. There were pieces of paper to write down confessions and, when finished, thumbtacks to pin them to the cross. (Wendy later burned the confessions in the front yard :)
  • Outside in the front lawn, Trent and Wendy waited to pray for anyone that wanted that.
  • There was a place with ropes that you could consider all the things that were on your mind and causing you stress, and, as you prayed, you untied the knot.

This was a beautiful night and I praise God for what He does through His children Trent and Wendy. It was amazing personally and for us as a  community. Praise God.
